Active volunteers are needed for the success of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. From September 26 to December 10, 2018, we will recruit 3,000 City Volunteers who will support the Tokyo 2020 Games held in Chiba prefecture, one of the host venues of 8 events. We expect participants to be passionate about the success of the games and wish to work together in welcoming international visitors with the utmost hospitality.
The following is key information from the Guidelines for Recruiting Chiba City Volunteers for Tokyo 2020, released on 30th July 2018.

Number of volunteers to be recruited in Chiba prefecture
5 areas and the number of volunteers to be needed for each area
1. Chiba City Venue Area: 1,700
※ 3 Olympic events and 4 Paralympic events will be held in this area. Volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period in 2020.
2. Ichinomiya Town Venue Area: 150
※ Surfing will be held in this area from July 26 to 29, 2020. Volunteers are expected to work during the period of the competition and related events held in the surrounding area around the end of July, 2020.
3. Narita International Airport: 700
※ Many spectators and tourists will arrive through Narita International Airport as the gateway to Japan. Volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period in 2020.
4. Narita City Area: 300
※ As the nearest and most convenient area to Narita International Airport, this area will be also visited by many tourists and volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period.
5. Urayasu City Area: 150
※ With a number of hotels nearby, many spectators and tourists will stay in this area, thus the volunteers are expected to support them by providing transport information to travel around the Chiba and Tokyo area throughout the games’ period.
Volunteering days and hours
About 5 days in total, around five hours per day
-Born on or before April 1, 2002
-Japanese national or person with permission to reside in Japan
-Able to hold a simple conversation (able to communicate) in Japanese
Type of applicants we are looking for
Enthusiastic about playing an active role as a City Volunteer at the Tokyo 2020 Games
Able to work with a team and treat team members with consideration
Has previous volunteering experience
Able to draw on their knowledge, skills, and experience related to providing Chiba tourist and transport information, etc.
Has the desire to use English or another foreign language or sign language skills
From September 12, 2018 to December 10, 2018
Methods of applying
-Apply online or Apply by mail
-Apply as an individual or a group of maximum 6 members
-Provide tourism information (sightseeing spots, restaurants, shopping places, etc.)
-Provide transport information (ways to access a destination, transfer points, etc.)
-Provide Games-related information
at major train stations in Chiba, stations nearest to Games venues or locations on the route to Games venues or the terminals at Narita International Airport

The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee will recruit 80,000 Games Volunteers who support the event and the competition operations in areas such as the competition venues, Athletes’ Villages and other Games-related facilities.
